We believe families deserve transparency when choosing their doula. Here’s how to understand the different types of training, certification, and experience our doulas may bring to your birth team.
✅ Currently Certified Doula
Holds active certification through a professional doula organization, which typically requires ongoing continuing education (CEUs).
🏛️ State of Ohio Certified
Certified through Ohio’s state program for doulas, often connected to Medicaid reimbursement.
🩺 Healthcare Professional Background
Doulas who are also licensed nurses, midwives, physical therapists, chiropractors, or other healthcare providers.
♾️ Lifetime Certified Doula
Earned certification but not required to maintain CEUs; may or may not be pursuing ongoing training.
❤️ CPR Certified
Current CPR certification, demonstrating readiness for emergency situations.
🎓 Additional Certifications
Some doulas also hold credentials such as childbirth educator, lactation counselor, or perinatal mental health training.
🔍 Background Check Completed
Has passed a professional or federal background check (required by the Ohio Board of Nursing certification).
